| North Carolina Launches New Website |
 |
A new on-line resource to help North Carolina educators
teach about the world was launched on June 20. The
web site is a project of North Carolina in the World, a
collaborative statewide effort to increase K-12 student
knowledge and skills about the world.
"Helping teachers teach about the world is a priority for
the North Carolina in the World network," said Millie
Ravenel, the Center's executive director. "From our
earliest meetings with education leaders around the
state, it became clear that teachers needed a single
clearinghouse of resources to help them bring
international education alive for their students."

a look at the graduating class of 2005, the class just
entering high school when 9/11 occurred. The article
quotes educators who believe that the terrorist attacks
renewed interest in world events and gave urgency to
the study of international politics and culture.
Looking at data since 9/11 the article finds that
the interest in foreign language instruction is on the rise
in high schools across the country.
Also on June 8th, the Boston Globe
featured a story on the increase in Chinese language
classes in the greater Boston area as well as across the
United States. For more information on these stories
