Rory McIlroy Continues to Prosper in Preparation for US Open

Since placing 25th at the Masters, Rory McIlroy has continued to prosper in preparation for the U.S. Open, which will take place June 13-16.

Ranked No. 2 in the world, the Northern Ireland native took 10th at the Wells Fargo Championship, finishing four under par, before taking eighth at The Players Championship with a final mark of seven under par last week.



But those aforementioned tournaments served as tune-ups for McIlroy, who is eying next month’s U.S. Open.

Before the Masters, McIlroy expressed confidence in his game. He was eager to get back into his groove. He was itching to find his swing again.

“I’m looking forward to getting into contention,” McIlroy said in April, according to The Guardian. “I haven’t really been in contention this year and it’ll be nice to get in the mix. I want to play well and know if I play well I’ll have a great chance to win.”

Unfortunately, his performance was subpar to his own standards. Despite failing to clinch a top-10 finish at the Masters, McIlroy believes his game is right where it needs to be, both physically and mentally.



He’s content with his swing and his putts. The comfort of getting back on track makes for a smoother transition heading into the Crowne Plaza Invitational, the Memorial Tournament and the FedEx St. Jude Classic before the second of four Majors begins.

Sure, McIlroy has hit the bunker a few times, missed the green on occasion, landed on the rough once or twice, or failed to sink a would-be automatic putt. But the 25-year-old isn’t worried about what happened earlier in the season.
