Funding and Support

Local school districts provide primary funding for the schools. Asia Society received a five-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support the International Studies Schools Network. This grant provides financial assistance to the schools and helps support other forms of assistance, including:

• Professional development activities, such as an annual summer institute and small group seminars throughout the school year
• An ongoing Leaders' Seminar for school principals
• International studies curriculum materials and related professional development
• School-based "coaching" to assist school faculty as they plan, implement, and sustain an effective international studies school
• Expert consultants to provide assistance on specific issues or problems
• Faculty visits to exemplary international studies schools
• Opportunities for schools to network in person through Web-based communication
• Assistance in forming partnerships with universities, businesses and nonprofits, cultural institutions and museums to provide internationally oriented experiences for students
