HOME | RECOGNIZE & HIGHLIGHT | CREATE FACT SHEET | BEST PRACTICES | HONOR TEACHERS/SCHOOLS Creating a Quote Sheet Much like fact sheets, quote sheets are used by reporters and the general public. To increase readability of a news article, many reporters include a quotation from someone involved with the story or issue (often by simply copying a quote directly from a press release or quote sheet). Someone unfamiliar with an issue is more likely to become involved or do more reading on a topic if they see a quote from someone they know and respect supporting the issue. When you are crafting a quote sheet, try to find quotes from highly recognized experts in education or people in your community, state or federal government. Searching the internet may bring up existing quotes, but if not, you can ask to be provided with one. To request quotes from higher level officials or experts, approach their press secretary. You may be asked to craft the quote first so that it can be quickly edited and approved. Make the quotes relevant and interesting and be sure to include the name and title of the person being quoted. Like fact sheets, there is no one standard format for a quote sheet. Usability and organization are the most important qualities of a quote sheet. See the sample quote sheets under Tools. You may take any of these quotes and add them to your own quote sheets or press releases. Feel free to use the same format or create your own. |
