Documenting Best Practices

As you research the state of international education in your state, you may want to build a database or keep a list of schools that have taken steps to integrate international content into their curriculum or that have successful language programs. These best practice schools may be able to provide guidance to other aspiring schools in your state. They can also be used as examples of the benefits of international education. Documenting policies and initiatives at the state level is also helpful. Policymakers and business leaders will be interested to see what can be accomplished with international education and to view practical examples of how it is accomplished. Use the worksheets under Tools (to the right) to help you identify these promising practices in your state and school.

Schools for the Global Age: Promising Practices in International Education profiles nine different approaches that schools in the Goldman Sachs Foundation Prizes for Excellence in International Education competition are taking to increase their students' international knowledge and skills and describes the lessons learned from these very different schools. A similar guide profiling the model schools you have found in your state is one way to recognize and highlight international education in your state. A guide like this could be useful in meetings with policymakers and business leaders.
