Questions to Ask

As your community/state's interest in international education develops, a critical first step is to analyze connections that already exist with other parts of the world and existing progrmas that may serve as models for a more comprehensive initiative. To get started on your planning process, the World-Class Education: Community Action Guide accompanying the DVD has a list of questions (page 10) to ask about your school or community, or you can also download a PDF version of these questions here. On page 11 of the Community Action Guide are questions to ask your state policymakers, download them here. Another useful planning tool is this chart illustrating the critical steps needed to meet the goal of overcoming the international knowledge and skills gap.

As you start to formulate a plan of action, one of the most important steps will be to gather support from communities, businesses and policymakers. In order to do this you will need to have data supporting the importance of international education to your state. This worksheet will help you identify economic and geographic areas that can benefit from an internationally literate citizenry. Continue on to opinion survey, economic stats and language stats to find more data.
