The States Institute on International Education in the Schools was an annual conference held in 2002-2005 that brought together high-level delegates from two dozen states as well as national leaders in policy, business, education and philanthropy to address a significant problem in American education: the wide gap between the growing economic and strategic importance of Asia and other world regions to the United States, and US students' limited knowledge about the world outside our borders.
Overview The information on this and linked webpages summarize the themes of the presentations and discussions at the Institute as to why international knowledge and skills are critical; what educational approaches are needed; and how to bring about change. 2005

| The Institutes are made possible with generous support from the Freeman, Ford, and Starr Foundations. By convening the States Institute, the co-sponsors and funders proceeded from the premise that the international arena is no longer the exclusive province of the federal government and multinational organizations. | ||||||||||||||||||||
