InternationalEd.org is part of a larger initiative, directed by Asia Society, called Asia and International Studies in the Schools.

Asia Society is a non-profit organization founded by John D. Rockefeller 3rd nearly fifty years ago to promote greater understanding of Asia and the Pacific region. In 2002, Asia Society appointed the National Coalition on Asia and International Studies in the Schools to develop and guide programs related to international education in American schools.

This Coalition is chaired by former governors John Engler of Michigan and James B. Hunt, Jr. of North Carolina. It includes the heads of major education associations, corporate CEOs, area and international relations experts and scholars, and media leaders.

A developing states network is creating state-based leadership teams, often chaired by the governor and/or chief state school officer, to assess state and local needs and create work plans to infuse international knowledge and skills in teaching and learning in schools.

This work is generously supported by the Freeman, Ford and Starr Foundations. Related programs are made possible by The Goldman Sachs Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. We thank these organizations for their visionary contributions to this field.
