Roger Federer: Where World No. 1’s Stellar 2012 Season Ranks Among His Career

An Olympic silver-medal finish. A 61-8 singles record.
Those are some of Roger Federer's accomplishments thus far in 2012, a year that has seen the 17-time Grand Slam champion return to the top of men's tennis at the tender age of 31.
After a Grand Slam drought that wore on for more than two years, Fed bounced back at the All England Club this past summer to add another major to his impressive resume and to show the world that he isn't done yet.
So where does this spectacular 2012 season rank among Fed's best tennis all-time?

2012
Given the circumstances, Roger Federer's 2012 season has been nothing short of astonishing. Federer entered the season as a 30-year-old legend being written off by most. Now he enters the fall boasting six individual titles and a 61-8 season singles record.
Fed got off to a hot start this year, winning at Rotterdam, Dubai and Indian Wells before the calendar even flipped to April. After winning at Madrid in May, Fed won his biggest tournament of the year at Wimbledon.
Weeks later he would earn his first career Olympic singles medal at the All England Club, earning silver just days before turning 31.
Regardless of what Fed has left up his sleeve for the rest of the year, he's already had a memorable season considering the circumstances. He was forced to deal with adversity for the first time in a long time and succeeded.
Oh yeah, and he took over the world No. 1 ranking again.

Choosing between Roger Federer's 2006 and 2007 seasons is like splitting hairs. Federer was just two final wins away at the French Open from possibly winning 10 straight Grand Slams from late 2005 to late 2007.
