Anirban Lahiri's Round 1 Masterclass
Anirban Lahiri was something of a dark horse going into this tournament. Although he has three wins on the Asian Tour, his best result in a major tournament was finishing tied for 31st at the 2012 Open Championship.
In direct contrast to this underwhelming resume, Lahiri shot out of the gates on Day 1 and produced some spectacular golf to finish the round on an eight-under 63.
Although he was unable to replicate this on his second round and looked out of rhythm as he struggled to hit the fairways, he nevertheless sits two shots off the pace in eighth place.
Miguel Angel Jimenez's Comments
When 13-year-old Chinese prodigy Ye Wo-cheng was granted a sponsor's exemption to compete in this year's tournament, the 48-year-old Jimenez wasted no time in getting his name out attached to a quote denouncing the decision.
Via Golf Digest, Jimenez's comments seemed also to question Ye's parents:
No doubt the sponsor wants publicity for the tournament but then it seems you have to go looking for under-age players to promote yourself. I'm sorry, this should not be allowed.
They should not be pushing kids his age too hard as it could have a disastrous effect on their careers. I hope he enjoys himself this week but then I saw him hitting practice balls this morning and he looked very nervous, and he should not be in that position.
Jimenez's argument certainly has merit, but the experience will be valuable for Ye and could also help him reach new heights as he develops. For the record, Ye mi...
