French Open 2014: Rafael Nadal’s Win Further Proves He’s Best in the World

Another French Open Title, his fifth in a row and ninth overall. Another Grand Slam championship, Rafa's 14th overall, and it all just serves as further proof Rafael Nadal is the best in the game today.
On Saturday, Nadal turned away Novak Djokovic in the French Open final with a commanding 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 victory. After the win Nadal talked about his feelings for competing and winning at Roland Garros.
Fans of the sport have to consider Nadal's lifetime achievements at Roland Garros unforgettable. His career record is 66-1 at the French Open, and this year's performance was awesome to say the least.
The first set of Sunday's final was just the second frame Nadal dropped throughout the tournament.
While almost no one will dispute Nadal is the King of Clay, it's getting harder to argue with the thought that he is simply the king.
Mike Greenberg from ESPN's Mike and Mike isn't ready to acknowledge Nadal's dominance beyond the clay courts.
It's hard to argue that Nadal is the man right now. The 28-year-old Spaniard has recovered nicely from knee injuries that kept him out of action periodically from 2011-12.
The list of players who could possibly make the claim that they are on Nadal's level is short. In fact, only Djokovic is even close on the current scene.
Andy Murray still hasn't lived up to his potential. Roger Federer has accomplished more as a professional, but his head-to-head record against Nadal is less than favorable (23-10 for Nadal). Fed could be considered one of the best of all time, but in today's game, there's no doubt he's inferior to Nadal.
Djokovic owned the sport in 2011 and parts of 2012, but since then, Nadal has repeatedly shown him who's boss when it has mattered most. And that's in the Grand Slams.
