Tries from George Kruis and Jack Nowell paved the way to a bright Six Nations start for England, with Owen Farrell adding five points from the tee after lining up at centre outside fly-half George Ford.
A tense tug of war erupted between the two British foes, with plenty of kicking and mistakes putting a stop to plenty of momentum, but England proved the superior side on the evening, as they claimed the four points on offer.

There was a sense of mystery surrounding England coming into this fixture, with many wondering what to expect of Jones' side and how it would differ from that of predecessor Stuart Lancaster.
But the turgid nature of Saturday's head-to-head meant it was difficult to get a read of either side. The packs were evenly matched as rucks and mauls became a fierce battleground, while the backs also muted each other in kind.

That would prove to be the only try of the opening 40 minutes, but Scotland scrum-half Greig Laidlaw sent over a pair of penalties that meant Scotland were very much in the game, as they trailed 7-6 at the half-time whistle.
Despite some passages of end-to-end play, there was no clear dominant party between the two sides, and Simon Thomas of Wales Online rightly termed the clash as anyone's for the taking:
