Round 1 Gets Under Way Qualifier Skugor got off to a excellent start against Cervantes when he claimed an early break, but he was unable to build further momentum, as the Spaniard quickly hit back to go 3-2 up.
Errors crept into the Croatian's game—he'd made 13 unforced by the end of the first set, according to TennisTV—and soon enough, Cervantes had drawn first blood quite comfortably.

From there, he only needed the match to follow serve, and it did just that, with neither coming close to a break for the remainder of the contest.
That match was wrapped up in less than one hour, 20 minutes, but Burgos needed more than two as he came from a set down to beat Kukushkin. His service let him down in the first set—according to Pro Tennis Live, he won just half the points played on his first serve—but a much-improved performance saw the world No. 49 claim the next two sets with ease.
