Thursday Recap Berardo hit a staggering nine birdies in his opening round, but four bogeys cost him what would have been a commanding lead over the field.
The Frenchman dropped shots at the third, 11th, 13th and 16th, but an otherwise magnificent round ensured him a share of the lead. The European Tour picked out his birdie at the eighth as one of the highlights of the day (44 seconds into the video):
Meanwhile, in stark contrast, Johnston and Henry managed to complete their rounds without a single blemish on their cards.
Johnston made gains at the 11th, 15th and 17th, and then he bookended his back nine with two more birdies.
He picked up a single shot on the first hole, though it could have been even better:
Three birdies and an eagle at the 13th capped a similarly positive start for Henry. Per the European Tour, he did find himself in a spot of bother at one point, though:
However, that didn't stop the Scot from salvaging the hole with an exceptional recovery:
A well-timed eagle at the eighth for Gros saw him cancel out a double-bogey on the hole prior, and while he also dropped a shot at the 14th, he picked up six birdies along the way.
