Soccer: Spain Is European Champs, World Champs and Now…American Champs?

Because of the earthquake and the catastrophe it caused in Japan, the national team has officially renounced to participate in the competition, as Japan's Football Association's president, Junji Ogura, told Nicolas Leon, president of the CONMEBOL (South American UEFA), in his visit to Asunción (Paraguay).
The event is going to be held in Argentina, and their federation is already looking for a substitute for the Japanese team. Argentinian newspaper "La Nación" reports that the president of the Argentinian Football Federation (AFA), Julio Grondona has already contacted his counterpart in Spain, Ángel María Villar, to "invite the World Champion to play in the American Cup."
Another media outlet, canchallena.com, reported that "the first options were Costa Rica, Honduras and the USA, but now, a big name has been added to the candidate pool: Spain."
The Cup is to be played in Argentina from July 1st until July 24th of this year. And whoever is selected to substitute Japan will be in Group A alongside Bolivia, Colombia and host Argentina.
If Spain were to be officially invited and entered the competition, it would mark the first time in history that an European team has played in this tournament.
And as they hold both the European and World championships, were they to win, this would also mark the first time a country has held all three crowns.
