Roger Federer: 2012 French Open Is Last Career Grand-Slam Shot for Fed-Ex

Federer has not won a major tournament since Australian Open 2010, but has advanced to at least the quarterfinal stage in each of his past eight Grand Slam appearances since.
Fed-Ex will be on world No. 1 Novak Djokovic's side of the bracket at Roland Garros this summer, meaning that the 30-year-old Federer would have to conquer tennis' highest mountain in order to set up a potential rematch of last year's French Open final, which featured Federer and Rafael Nadal.
There is little reason to doubt Federer this June, however, as the clay surface at the French Open can provide an underrated equalizer. Fed-Ex has more experience on the red stuff than most of his competition in Paris, and has made the tournament's final five out of the past six years, winning it all in 2009.
Still though, it's hard to imagine a 30-plus-year-old Federer taking down both Djokovic and Nadal in the same tournament. But if there were ever a shot, it would be this summer at Roland Garros.
Djokovic has looked human on clay, having never made it past the semifinals at the French Open in seven tries. If history is to hold true, then Fed-Ex will dispose of the Djoker in the semifinals to set up an epic rematch with Nadal.
Meanwhile, Nadal has won six of the last seven French Opens including the past two. The Spaniard has to be the favorite to repeat in Paris this June, but Federer is nipping at his heels.
Given Federer's career success at the French Open and his likely semifinal opponent's struggles there, it's safe to say that the 2012 edition of the clay major will be Fed-Ex's last shot to add a 17th singles Grand Slam title to his name.
