Some say he’s made the season boring, others say that he isn’t a great driver.
Sour grapes aside, those same people may be better off recognizing the talent of a driver who has more race wins this season than all of his rivals put together.
Elsewhere, there was the usual speculation as to which drivers will be on the move.
Sebastian Vettel: Brilliant or Boring?
Vettel’s win in Japan was far from straightforward though.
Mark Webber and Romain Grosjean made him work for what proved to be his fourth win in the last five seasons at Suzuka.
The 26-year-old has been imperious all year, and remains on course to notch his fourth world title in succession.
Twinned with his dominance, however, is the school of thought that suggests he is making the sport boring for fans.
Over the weekend, Vettel explained why he thinks that Michael Schumacher’s dominance was more boring following Lewis Hamilton’s recent comments, per the BBC.
Speaking to the Associated Press (via The Guardian), Vettel explained:
That's a compliment, first of all. But it's very different. If you take Korea, which was more similar to Spa [the Belgian GP], the gap was something between three and six seconds for the whole race. If you look at 10 years ago [in Schumacher's time], it was more like 30 to 60 seconds, which is a big difference.
