2012 Wells Fargo Championship: Rory McIlroy in Dire Need of Victory at Charlotte

Through two rounds of play in Charlotte, McIlroy is 12-under par, just one shot behind both D.A. Points and Nick Watney, who currently lead the field.
During the tournament it is clear that McIlroy has only improved his play. In his most recent outing in the second round, the top-notch talent came out and put up a 68, putting himself within grasp of taking home the title.
This win would be the second in his last four tournaments, with his other win coming at the Honda Classic at the beginning of March.
Yet even if McIlroy wins at Charlotte, he will still be criticized for not coming up with big performances in the more crucial, defining tournaments.
At the Masters, McIlroy failed to make the cut in 2010, was tied for 15th in 2011, and was tied for 40th in 2012. In the PGA Championship, after placing third in 2010, McIlroy would finish tied for 64th in 2011.
Talk about some poor numbers from a golfer that most consider one of the more promising, skilled players in the game today.
Yet it's tournaments like the Wells Fargo Championship and the Honda Classic that will continue to help him improve as a golfer and better prepare himself for the more critical, prestigious tournaments to come.
At just 23 years of age, there is anything but panic for the 2011 U.S. Open champion. McIlroy has a tremendous feel for the game, tens of years to come, and with more confidence a chance to win multiple majors.
