Augusta National: Aaron Baddeley in Contention at Hallowed Golf Course

In all of the talk leading up to the Masters, there wasn't a lot of talk about Aaron Baddeley.
Baddeley, who notched his first win in four years in February at the Northern Trust Open, has come out of the gate strong in the first round of the Masters. He's currently two-under-par after nine holes, putting him two back of leaders Ross Fisher and Retief Goosen.
Baddeley has hit four-of-seven fairways and made six of his nine greens in regulation and it's thanks to an improved long game that has buoyed his game of late.
"The 30-year-old has ridden an improved long game after returning to his original swing with his junior coach, Dale Lynch," Mark Hayes writes for the Herald Sun.
'"Everyone thinks it's my putting that got me back this year, but I've actually really been hitting it pretty well," he said.
'"I've hit a lot more greens in regulation and it just opens things up for me, so I'm really excited.
'"I haven't really putted to the standard I feel like I can putt to (this year), but the last couple of weeks at Bay Hill (Arnold Palmer Invitational), I putted a lot nicer. Then at Houston (Open), I putted quite well for the last three days.
'"So the flat stick is starting to feel pretty good again."'
Baddeley is certainly one of the pleasant surprises, along with Goosen, who eagled the first hole, giving us our first great golf shot of the tournament. While Baddeley's game is certainly a work in progress, it's something that has been slowly coming together and looks like some of that Masters magic is working in his favor in the first round.
