British Open 2010: KJ Choi Turning More Than Heads on Putting Green

He begins his setup to the ball just like every other player on tour does alongside the ball reading the line, and it looks like he is about to address the ball as "normal".
He then turns his body and faces the hole, throwing his right leg out to the left of the ball, and spreads his hands about two feet apart on a strange looking club that resembles a boat oar more than a golf club.
Next up is the swing of this new style of putting. It looks more like a croquet mallet swing than anything to me. Is this legal you ask?
Yes. All 100 percent within the rules of golf.
And he may just start a new fade of putting if he is in contention this week at the British Open. Remember how everyone thought the "claw" grip was different when it first came on tour?
"When I started out, I was not 100 percent comfortable with it," Choi said through a translator. "But I believe in the theory, and I believe in the principle behind it. I've worked hard and I've practiced hard. I'm convinced this is the right way to go. I'm not looking back."
Hey, whatever it takes right? Even if it is mental.
Changing clubs before or during a major is often frowned upon, but Choi would not be the first to do so, even at the British Open.
Sam Sneed actually tried putting croquet style with a putter that had the head turned flat to the hole at the British Open in his day, prompting the USGA to pass a new rule stating a player could not swing the club between his legs or straddle the ball while on the putting surface.
This rule, however, does not deter the player from doing this motion off of the green, which may come in handy for Choi at the British Open this week.
