British Open 2010 Leader Louis Oosthuizen: Just Who Is This Guy?

Louis Oosthuizen on the other hand? Yeah, I haven’t heard of this guy either.
After a second-round 67, Oosthuizen took over first place with a score of 12-under par.
You may not think he will be there until the end, but he has stuck around this long. So, perhaps you should get to know this guy a little bit.
Let’s start off at the elementary. His full name is Lodewicus Theodorus Oosthuizen. I don’t know about you, but that’s a pretty cool name, although I can see why he decided to go by Louis.
Oosthuizen first burst onto the scene by winning the World Amateur Team Championships as a member of the South African team. He turned pro two years later at the young age of 19.
He took home his first European Tour victory earlier this year by winning the Open de Andalucia de Golf.
So, it is an understatement to say he is still trying to make a name for himself on the PGA Tour.
Until this weekend, Oosthuizen has only made the cut at the PGA Championship, which he recorded a 73rd place finish in 2008. He didn’t make the cut at any of the other three Majors.
But Oosthuizen has a solid foundation for his golf game: Perhaps you have heard of his mentor, Ernie Els.
Oosthuizen joined the Ernie Els Golf Foundation in South Africa when he was 17. It’s safe to say that Els, who was considered one of the favorites to win this British Open heading in, has taught him well.
He has also taken a page out of Tiger Woods’ book.
Oosthuizen said after his Round Two score that gave him the lead that he is trying to follow the blueprint Tiger used to win in 2005: Avoid the bunkers at all costs.
It is only Friday, so we will see how the South African responds as the pressure ...
