Memorial Tournament 2012: Struggling Rory McIlroy Misses 3rd Straight Cut

McIlroy looked completely beaten when he walked off the 18th green after shooting plus-seven in his second round at the 2012 Memorial Tournament.
To put in perspective exactly how bad McIlroy's second round was, there were only four other golfers in the tournament that scored worse than he did on Friday.
McIlroy and his fans hoped he'd get the boat turned in the right direction this week, and things looked positive on that front after he posted a minus-one in the first round.
Then, disaster struck in the second round when he failed to post a single birdie while recording three bogeys and two double-bogeys.
McIlroy's first sign of trouble in 2012 came when he finished the Masters tied for 40th place. A month later, he was cut after two terrible rounds at the Players Championship and only a week ago he was cut from the BMW Championship.
This all comes as a huge surprise.
After all, it was only a month ago that McIlroy claimed the No. 1 ranking after a playoff loss at Quail Hollow. He had been on fire for the past year until the Masters, and his fall from grace since then hasn't been pleasant to watch.
McIlroy needs to go back to the drawing board and get back to basics. It may be time for him to take a few weeks off, go back to his roots and rekindle his love for the game.
Whatever comes next, let's hope it looks better than what McIlroy's been through lately.
