Jimenez Steps Up
The iconic Jimenez moved effortlessly up the leaderboard with some sublime golf on Day 3, making a significant claim for his first Senior Major Championship.
The 21-time European Tour event winner displayed his notorious swagger and ability to overcome his overnight position of 11th place to leapfrog all those around him with a brilliant display in all areas of gameplay.
His putting in particular was largely error-free, as Golf Channel highlighted:
The 52-year-old began the day three shots behind Durant and Kohki Idoki. But he was unfazed by the overcast conditions on the East Coast to start the day, with three birdies from his opening six holes on the second, fourth and sixth.
The European Senior Tour caught the eccentric character enjoying a cigar after a fruitful day on the course:
A bogey-free round was aided with four further birdies on the back nine as Jimenez launched an impressive tilt at the title. He fell just short of equalling the course record with a six-foot birdie-putt miss on the last hole.
Despite never lifting the title during his time on the regular tour, Jimenez is now in a terrific position to lift the coveted trophy.
