Tiger Woods at Bridgestone Invitational 2012: Poor Showing Is Bad Omen for PGA

Firestone used to be Woods' personal amusement park; at one point he won seven out of 10 events at the Ohio course.
Now, however, he's struggling to even put the ball in the hole from three feet, let alone dropping an under-par round. This is a terrible omen for his chances at next week's PGA—the last major of the season.
If Woods can't even perform at a course he's dominated over the years, how can he find success on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island? That course is one of the toughest and windiest in the country.
In order to play well there, Woods will have to be clicking on all cylinders. He'll have to be driving it straight, hitting his irons crisply into the water-surrounded greens and, most importantly, putt.
At Firestone, Woods is actually striking the ball quite efficiently. He's hitting the majority of fairways, and he's finding the green more times than not.
However, his formerly trusty flatstick has continued to betray him.
On Thursday, he plodded around the greens with 33 putts; it didn't get much better with 29 on Friday.
These totals won't win most peoples' club championships. If he continues to putt like that next week at Kiawah, he'll have a tough time even making the cut.
In Tiger's run of dominance, he was one of the best putters on the planet. When he had to have a big putt, it always dropped.
Now, it seems that every time he must make a birdie it edges out.
Woods still has time to turn his Bridgestone Invitational around, but even if he doesn't crawl back into contention, he has to find a way to get his putter going.
If he doesn't, he might as well start looking forward to next season, because that ever-elusive 15th major won't come next ...
