Fred Funk, the 2009 champion, notched four birdies to one bogey on Thursday. He hit 11 of 13 fairways while registering a greens-in-regulation (GIR) rate of 78 percent. He averaged 1.61 putts per hole. He went a combined three-under par in Par 3's and Par 4's, but went even par on Par 5's.
Jay Don Blake posted one eagle, three birdies and two bogeys on Thursday. The 54-year-old hit 10 of 13 fairways and averaged 1.39 putts per hole, but his GIR was only 50 percent. On Par 3's, he was one-over par. On Par 5's he was four-under par. Blake finished 22nd at the Senior Open last year.
Michael Allen notched one eagle, five birdies and four bogeys. He posted a decent GIR of 67 percent, but hit only six of 13 fairways and averaged 1.56 putts per hole. On Par 3's, he was one-under par. On Par 5's, he was three-under par. Allen finished sixth in 2010, seventh in 2011 and 33rd last year in the tournament.
