Currently, Mika Miyazato is through 11 holes at six under (par) for the tournament, three shots clear of I.K. Kim who is in the clubhouse at three under (par) and four shots better Ai Miyazato (no relation) and Karrie Webb, who are halfway done with their second rounds.
While the first two rounds of a major championship aren't meaningless in any way, the scoreboard after two rounds generally doesn't look the same as it will at the end of a round.
So, now that the second round is finally going again, it's time to look forward to what we can expect from the rest of the tournament.
The more specific question is, who can we expect to see contending?
Mika Miyazato
Who else would be first? Actually, Miyazato doesn't have a great history at the US Open in terms of contending.
Granted, it's a limited sample size, but a T57 and a missed cut would hardly suggest that she's a threat.
Well, someone forgot to tell her. Miyazato is currently at six under (par), five under for the second round. Her putter is on fire and if that continues, she is not going anywhere.
Also, while her US Open history isn't great, she's been solid at both majors in 2011, posting a T7 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship and a T8 at the LPGA Championship.
Karrie Webb
The 2000 and 2001 is a tremendously accomplished player, but she hasn't won a major since 2006. Still, even since then, Webb has found a way to be be a presence in major championships.
If Webb a reasonable contender through two rounds, she is a safe bet to be a contender for the rest of the tournament.
