Americans Abroad Wrap: Steve Cherundolo Retires; Julian Green Commits to USA

Cherundolo announced his retirement this week only a day after Green committed his international future to the U.S.
There were also a number of American goal scorers, led by Geoff Cameron and Jose Torres. Fabian Johnson, Oguchi Onyewu, Edgar Castillo and DaMarcus Beasley also ended up on the scoresheet with assists.
On the injury front, there’s an update on Timmy Chandler and a transfer move for youngster Duane Holmes.

In the English Premier League
Geoff Cameron took up his usual spot at right-back for Stoke and scored a goal in their 4-1 drubbing of Aston Villa. Brek Shea made the 18 for Stoke, but didn’t play. Brad Guzan was in the net for Villa and finished the match with one save.
Jozy Altidore played 90 minutes in Sunderland’s 2-0 loss to Norwich.
Tim Howard and Everton beat Swansea 3-2. Howard had five saves.

Steve Cherundolo and Julian Green were fighting each other for the biggest news out of Germany this week. After over a year of struggling with a knee injury, Cherundolo announced his retirement from the game. He played for 16 years with Hannover 96, earning 370 appearances and played for the United States men’s national team 87 times in his career.
Green, on the other hand, announced the beginning of his career with the U.S. as USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann tweeted that Green had committed his international future to the U.S.
