The star forward spoke on a wide range of topics, including his team's title-deciding fixture against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, as reported by Reuters (via Al Arabiya).
Messi believes Atleti's rise to prominence is only going to make La Liga stronger, and he reserved special praise for compatriot Simeone, who has overseen said rise:
I think Atletico Madrid have had a fantastic year. They are in the final of the Champions League, fighting until the last minute for the La Liga title. Their performances are making the league even better, so I think it is very good but I hope that, in the end, we will be champions.
It is very likely that one day we will see him [Simeone] as the head of the Argentina national team because he is a great coach and I think that he will want to coach the team.
Atletico currently lead La Liga by three points but will have to travel to the Camp Nou on the final matchday, and a win by Barcelona would hand the league title to the Blaugrana.
The two clubs have met on five occasions already this season, and Barcelona have yet to defeat Atletico in 2013-14, losing one in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
Madrid seemed to be cruising to their first league title since 1996 before dropping points in back-to-back matches, setting up a dramatic finish to the current campaign at the Camp Nou on Saturday.
Barcelona were thought to be well out of the title race just a few weeks back, and a win on Saturday would conclude one of the most dramatic comebacks La Liga has seen.
