Madrid Wednesday ATP Results: Federer’s Rough First Match Djokovic Reaches 30-0

I will start off saying, "May the 4th be with you," to Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, who took world no. 3 Roger Federer to three intense tiebreakers for some epic tennis for the last match of the day at the Mutua Mardrid Open. Federer eventually won 7-6(13), 6-7(1), 7-6(7) and improved his record against Lopez 8-0 for their first face-off on clay in their careers.
Up until the third set, World No. 39 Lopez won 100 percent of his first serves and ended with 96 of 130 total service points won. He had the audience cheering for him at the edge of their seat, and it must have been hard to lose. However, he showed he is a force to be contended with for Rome and Roland Garros. Federer will play Xavier Malisse, who beat Yen-Hsun Lu, in the third round. Federer could only convert one of six break points and gave his fans a scare/ excellent tennis.
The other top seeds got through with ease, Novak Djokovic took a 6-3, 6-4 for his 30th match win of the season against South African Kevin Anderson to meet Guillermo Garcia-Lopez next.
Rafael Nadal blew past Marcos Baghdatis 6-1, 6-3 and won 80 percent of break points to meet with World No. 32 Juan Martin Del Porto, who successfully defeated Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-0. This will be an great match to tune in for to gladiators on the court-- Nadal currently lead his head-to-head series with Delpo 5-3.
No. 4 seed and recently injured Andy Murray went to three sets against Gilles Simon 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 with eight aces. Murray will play Thomaz Bellucci, who's opponent, Florian Mayer, retired in the second set. French Open finalist, Robin Soderling showed some progress on the clay for the season after beating Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 6-3. He has won 50 percent of his clay-surfaced matches. Seventh seed Tomas Berdych was able to beat wild card Marcel Granollers 6-4, 6-0.
The only seed to lose was eighth seed Jurgen Melzer, who was upset by qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver. ...
