Roger Federer: FedEx Will End Novak Djokovic’s Grand Slam Streak at French Open

This would be a rematch of the thrilling 2011 semifinals at Roland Garros, which Federer won in four sets. The back-and-forth battle became an instant classic, and it would be a treat for tennis fans to see a rematch.
A semifinal matchup between Djokovic, the world’s No. 1 ranked player and Federer, No. 3, would be the second time in recent weeks that the two met on clay courts.
The Serb and the Swiss met in the semifinals at the Italian Open, but it was Djokovic who moved on this time. He defeated Federer in two straight sets, and this will be fresh in the Maestro’s mind if the two face each other again in Paris.
Djokovic will be the big storyline at the French Open, as will be chasing his fourth consecutive grand slam. He has never won the tournament, and has never even reached the finals.
Federer, on the other hand, is the only player other than Rafael Nadal to win at Roland Garros since 2005. He has also made the finals in five of his last six tries.
It was after the semifinal defeat that Djokovic started on his tear through the tennis world, winning three grand slams in the next seven months.
But since his win at the Australian Open in January, he has cooled off a bit. In his two most recent tournament appearances, he has lost to Nadal in the finals. While he may not be as hot as he was earlier in the year, he’s still playing more than well enough to reach the semis.
The last grand slam finals appearance for Federer was following his defeat of Djokovic in last year’s French Open. He will be looking to make a statement with his performance in Paris.
