Pebble Beach Pro Am 2013: Dustin Johnson Is Golfer to Watch over Weekend

Pebble Beach Golf Links might as well be renamed after Phil Mickelson due to his dominance on these courses.

Lefty has won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am four times, has two third place finishes and even has the course record on Spyglass Hill, one of the courses played in the pro-am. To top it off, he is the all-time money leader in the event as well.

While obviously the overwhelming favorite, he will have his work cut out for him. Amongst the pack of 155 fellow golfers, No. 4 ranked golfer in the world Dustin Johnson will be gunning right for him.

Johnson started off the year hot by winning the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. After not participating in last weekend's Phoenix Open, Johnson will be gunning for the title in this event. While the courses are not exactly tailored to Johnson's strengths, he has finished in the Top 10 in five of his six starts on this course, with back-to-back victories in 2009 and 2010.

Johnson is a player who loves to let it rip, being one of the best on tour from the tee box. While this event is not catered to players adept with the driver, he has a great ability to play in the wind, which will come in handy this weekend. He will also be completely healthy for the first time and ready to take on Pebble Beach, after having to deal with the flu causing him to withdraw from the Sony Open in Hawaii a month ago, as well as the food poisoning that hindered his play two weeks ago at the Farmers Insurance Open. He will be ready to go at one of his favorite courses.

As long as Johnson can keep his head on straight and keep things from getting too awkward, (after all he is playing with Wayne Gretzky...his girlfriend's dad), he has as good a chance as anyone to take home the prize.
