We now know that Woods will not win another golf tournament this weekend, because he sits 10 strokes adrift leader Adam Bland at the Aussie Masters, and this failing will leave him 0-for-2010. Imagine that. Tiger Woods pitching a shutout. This is like the Playboy Mansion without the busty blondes. It's late night TV without the jokes. A year ago this very day, any suggestion that Woods would get the collar in 2010 would get you the longest of odds with British bookies. Or a reservation in a room with rubber walls.
But, then, a year ago we didn't know about Rachel Uchitel. We didn't know about the squadron of cocktail waitresses/bimbos/porn stars who were linked to Woods. And we certainly didn't know that Tiger would be playing wee-hours pinball with his SUV at 2:25 a.m. on Nov. 27, and that his then-bride, Elin, would come racing out of the hacienda wielding a 9-iron. Or was it a 3-wood? Doesn't matter. She knew about the cocktail waitresses/bimbos/porn stars and Woods knew she knew, and shortly after his SUV boinked off a fire hydrant, then a tree, we all knew that the gossip rags were right. Tiger was a philanderer. A cheater.
Woods no longer was interesting because of his golf game. He was interesting for everything but his golf game. He became the favored fodder for late-night gab guys like Letterman, Leno and O'Brien. He still is.
The juiciest bit of news involving Tiger this weekend isn't his failure to successfully defend his Aussie Masters title. Tiger Woods losing another golf tournament? Yawn. That's a dog-bites-man story. But, Tiger's ex-bride pawning off $2.5 million worth of trinkets he gave her...
