Tiger Woods’ Mediocre Performance at Honda Classic Should Not Cause Concern

Fans have come to expect perfection out of the best golfer of his generation. After winning 14 major championships, this was almost justified.
Unfortunately, injuries and personal issues have slowed his career a bit. He is still one of the top players in the world, but he has not won a major title since 2008. Many will claim that he is not "back" until he finishes first in one of the top four tournaments of each season.
Of course, the 17 major championships since Woods' last title have been won by 16 different people. Winning seems to be more of a crapshoot than anything else.
However, the former No. 1 player in the world is right where he needs to be to get back on top.
In his first tournament of the year, Woods took first place at the Farmers Insurance Open. Once again, people were excited about seeing the player of old.
Once again, the fans were disappointed after watching him lose in the first round of the Accenture Match-Play Championship.
The Honda Classic was a chance to show that he was still dominant in stroke-play formats, but he failed to do so. It was not a poor week for Woods, but it was far from his best. All four rounds featured big mistakes that led to bogeys and double bogeys throughout.
There were major problems with his driving accuracy, and his putting still leaves much to be desired.
Then again, he prevented disaster throughout the tournament with some impressive saves and a lot of birdies. The talent is still there, he just needs more consistency.
Over the past couple of years, Woods has shown that elite ability on the course a number of times. He won three tournaments last season, plus three more top-three finishes, including at the British Open. Throughout the course of the year, few competitors are better.
