Yani Tseng Outduels Michelle Wie to Win In Arkansas

Two weeks after her second career victory, Michelle Wie came up one shot short of Yani Tseng at the P&G NW Arkansas Championship.
After lighting up her second round, including a 28 on the back nine, Wie cooled down Sunday to shoot two-under par and finish at 12 under. A couple of late bogeys would be her undoing, despite finishing with back-to-back birdies.
But this was Tseng's day.
Tseng shot a 65 Sunday to win her third tournament of the year. Her previous two wins came at majors, the Kraft Nabisco and British Open. It didn't get her the No. 1 world ranking, but my guess is it won't be long before she has that title.
Tseng and Wie were tied on the 72nd hole for about 30 seconds when Wie made her birdie putt. Tseng's birdie putt was about half the length of Wie's, so it was all but academic.
While Wie may get most of the attention, Tseng deserves a lot of credit for stepping up in some of the biggest tournaments of the year. This particular tournament was only three rounds, but it had every major LPGA player in the field with the exception of Paula Creamer, who decided to rest her injured thumb.
Michelle is going back to finish her senior year at Stanford, so when that feat is accomplished she'll have nothing standing in her way.
Except maybe Tseng, who could very well be the No. 1 player in the world when the time rolls around.
