FIFA President Sepp Blatter To Consider Replay at Meeting Next Month

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has been surrounded by plenty of noise from the 2010 World Cup, and let's just say it's in addition to the artificial sound created by the vuvuzelas.

Due to the continued errors by game officials in South Africa, Blatter reversed his decision on refusing to allow "goal-line technology" or the use of instant replay. According to the LA Times, Blatter said FIFA would reopen the debate on the use video technology at its rule-making panel the following month.

Both England and Mexico were affected by referee decisions. Frank Lampard had his match-tying goal against Germany denied. Instead of a 2-2 tie, Germany defeated England 4-1.

Mexico fell behind to Argentina when Carlos Tevez scored the game's first goal, although he was offside. Mexico was eliminated after losing 3-1.

According to the Times, Blatter apologized to team officials from both countries.

"After having witnessed such situation," said Blatter regarding England's goal being disallowed, "we have to open again this file, definitely."

Blatter commented that the call made in the Mexico-Argentina game would not need technology, inferring that the referees need to be more aware of the positioning.

In November, Blatter drew the ire from Ireland when Thierry Henry used his hand twice to deliver an assist in the game-tying goal for France. The point allowed the French to advance to South Africa ahead of the Irish. Following the outrage, Blatter made it clear that FIFA would not allow instant replay to be used.

Blatter's criticism of instant replay was that it would take away from the beautiful game.

On Tuesday, FIFA removed a pair of referees, Italian Roberto Rosetti and Uruguay's Jorge Larrionda. Rosetti incorrectly awarded Argentina a goal, while Larrionda did not credit the English with a game-tying goal.
