Finished the year Number one. Got to her first slam final in 2009 at the US Open. Wasn't able to win but was able to get valuable experience. Definitely a threat to win down under. I think that she will be able to break through and win her first Slam this time around.
2 Vera Zvonareva RUS
Always a threat on seemingly any surface. Had an amazing year. Getting to the finals of Wimbledon and the US Open. Definitely another favorite to win this slam.
3 Kim Clijsters BEL
A proven winner. Won the US open last year. Definitely a threat in any tournament she enters. A 4 time semi-finalist and once in the finals of the Australian Open she's always loved playing at the Aussie Open. She's my pick for another finals run.
4 Venus Williams USA
If there is a Williams in the draw, be it Venus or Serena everyone has to be looking at her. Her sister may be more of a dominant force, but never count out Venus.
5 Samantha Stosur AUS
Stating the obvious here, she will be the fan favorite. Inconsistent to say the least, but has the skill set to take her a long way. I wouldn't peg her as a favorite, but a dark horse. And has anyone seen those biceps on her? Welcome to the gun show!
6 Francesca Schiavone ITA
Won the French Open in a shocker last year. If she plays the way she did in that tournament there could be another shocker this year.
7 Jelena Jankovic SRB
Another inconsistent player. Has all the talent in the world but seems to lose concentration. Lost in the third round last year. I would expect an improvement this year.
8 Victoria Azarenka BLR
Yet another player, more inconsistency. Ha...
