French Open 2013: Breaking Down Favorites to Win Grand Slam Event

All of the stars in tennis will be present at the French Open, particularly in the Men’s Singles bracket.
The second Grand Slam event of the season will take place over the next few weeks. With the event starting up on Sunday, let’s go ahead and look at some of the big favorites to win the French Open in 2013.
Rafael Nadal
This has been Nadal’s event to win over the course of his career. He’s won the event the last three years and seven of the last eight, with Roger Federer the only other winner during that stretch, back in 2009. His overall record at this event is 52-1.
There’s little doubt that Nadal is the best clay-court player of all time. Since his return from a knee injury, Nadal has gone 31-2 on clay this season, with four tournament championships already.
If there’s any player in the field that’s the heavy favorite, it’s Nadal, plain and simple.
Novak Djokovic
The guy that fan will be looking to potentially upset Nadal in this event will be Djokovic.
So far this season, Djoker is 7-2 on clay with a tournament win at Monte Carlo. He has improved each of the past three years at the French Open, losing in the quarterfinals in 2010, semifinals in 2011 and finals against Nadal in 2012.
The two will likely go against each other again in the semifinals this year. In their six meetings against each other on clay, they are tied with three wins each. The winner of this potential match would advance to the finals and likely be the favorite to bring home the win.
If the two face each other in the semis, it will certainly be a very entertaining match.
