The 31-year-old Swiss legend enters the tournament as the top-seeded player and won't have to face any of the other Big Four members in Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal.
Fed has won this tournament twice in the past, including last year when he defeated Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets.
With Del Potro representing Fed's top threat again in 2013, tennis fans can expect the 17-time Grand Slam champion to win his third career title at Rotterdam this winter. Having spent a decent amount of time away from the sport since his heartbreaking loss to Murray in January, look for an energized Fed to take over on the fast-playing courts inside Ahoy Rotterdam.
The veteran may have lost some speed in terms of movement in recent years, but his precision remains unrivaled and his serve is still among the deadliest in tennis.
It also doesn't hurt Fed's chances that third-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga went out in the first round this week, losing to Igor Sijsling in three sets. Tsonga has given Federer problems in the past (beating him at Wimbledon in 2011), but will obviously be a non-factor the rest of the way.
With other past tournament champions Michael Llodra and Mikhail Youzhny having already bowed out in the first round, Fed is the clear-cut favorite at this week's ATP tournament.
Fed doesn't need to be on his A-game in the Netherlands this week in order to come away with the title. So long as he can string together five quality performances through Sunday's final, he's sure to walk away with his first singles title of 2013.
