Rafael Nadal Injury: Updates on Tennis Star’s Back and Return

According to The Buenos Aires Herald, the 27-year-old Spaniard has been battling a stomach virus in addition to his back injury and has withdrawn from the upcoming 2014 ATP Copa Claro, an outdoor clay-court ATP World Tour 250 series event scheduled to begin in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Feb. 10.
Nadal explained the circumstances surrounding his decision to withdraw from the tournament, per The Buenos Aires Herald:
"I have still not been able to train on the track due to the back problems I have suffered since Australia and also due to a stomach virus that is currently affecting me."
Nadal apologized for pulling out on his Facebook page and Twitter account:
The 13-time Grand Slam champion is currently ranked No. 1 in the ATP world rankings, but hasn't played since losing to Stanislas Wawrinka in the 2014 Aussie Open final in January.
Nadal and his team are surely hoping he can be back to 100 percent in time for the clay-court season which will arrive in April.
