Victoria Azarenka vs. Serena Williams: Why Williams Needs Victory at Madrid Open

Azarenka is the current No. 1 player in the world, but Williams needs to rekindle the success she once had as a former world No. 1.
Why?
Williams has never won a Madrid title and needs to add more championship hardware to her shelf. Azarenka is playing for the best player in this Open or at this moment.
Williams is playing for the rights to be called the best player in this generation or, perhaps, ever.
Yahoo! Sports' Busted Racquet named Williams the fifth-best women’s tennis player of all time on their definitive list. While a win here isn’t going to shoot her up those rankings, it will get her back to her dominant ways.
A win in Madrid could propel Serena to a great year where she could nab some Grand Slam victories. A loss could drop her spirits and she could limp to a poor remainder of the year.
She easily crushed Lucie Hradecka in the semifinals, 7-6 (5), 6-0. A complete annihilation in Madrid will definitely bode well for the rest of the year.
She knows how to beat Azarenka as Williams is 6-1 against the Belarusian. She also knows how to win big matches.
A win at the 2012 Madrid Open would just add to her impressive career and boost her status as quite possibly the greatest ever.
